As part of the effort to rid Centre Street of trash generated from businesses, one business-owner suggests taking a break from smoking during breaks.
Jamaica Plain business owners have pushed a neighborhood-wide effort to clean up litter along the Centre Street business district. The movement has been a focus of several months’ worth of Jamaica Plain Business And Professional Association meetings, with calls to action for the business community to do their part and self-police the trash situation in front of their stores. Kim Mitchell, owner of Boing! Toy Shop and member of a BAPA anti-litter committee, suggested at a meeting last Wednesday that employees of Centre Street businesses join together to take breaks without smoking cigarettes. “We are noticing there are some businesses that their employees are going outside and adding to the litter issue we have on Centre Street,” she said …

The cost of colonoscopies, MRIs, CT scans and mammograms can shift a lot from place to place.
It costs more than $1,000 extra to get a CT Scan in Suffolk County than in neighboring Middlesex County. That's according to data from New Choice Health, a private company that encourages people to become smarter healthcare consumers. With Boston's premiere hospitals and large health care organizations, the higher price tag on four common procedures is not entirely surprising. But Middlesex County's prices fall below the state average, making a short trip north and west of the city a potential money saver. These big regional differences have been in the news lately: As the Washington Post wrote on Wednesday, "One hospital charges $8,000 - another $38,000." Using the same data as the Post, The New York Times listed out the prices of a …

In addition to keeping sidewalks and gutters clean, we are asking that they work with their employees to take a litter-free break, reminding them to throw all trash, including cigarette butts, in the trash. Please thank business owners who are doing a good job and let …   more ›
