We Don't Need a 'Cliff-Hanger'

Congress is pushing us towards a fiscal cliff, but this doesn't need to be a 'cliff'-hanger—there are things Democrats and Republicans agree on and can do right now. For starters, Sen. Scott Brown and other elected officials should simply extend tax cuts for the middle class, something just about everyone agrees on.

I'm tired of watching Congress act like spoiled children, and I'm not alone. Seven in 10 Americans want both sides to put aside partisan politics and back-room bickering and do their job in regards to the fiscal cliff (CNN/ORC International Survey). Unless party leaders take action, their wrangling over controversial tax cuts for the rich could mean taxes on the middle class go up by an average of $1,600 on Jan. 1. This will cost us 1.6 million jobs and cut consumer spending by $200 billion.

I think a cliffhanger ending might be good theatre, but American families deserve better.
