UMass Boston Students to Support Non-Profit Puerto Rican Organic Farm
Boston, MA: Three UMass Boston undergraduate students, Barbara Bowe, Stephanie Grau and Samantha Nam-Krane, will embark on an exciting service trip to a remote community in Puerto Rico called Las Marias. These young women will spend a week volunteering at a non-profit, organic farm, Plenitud that provides services geared towards empowering people and their communities with the necessary skills to carry out sustainable projects; including protecting the environment while improving the community’s quality of life and access to nutritious food.
While there, the students will volunteer in a number of activities including developing and improving infrastructure at their teaching center, doing community outreach projects and assisting with natural building projects and food production.
Each student must each raise $900 to cover travel, room and board. They have organized various local merchants to assist in raising funds by donating products and services that will be raffled off on two dates, December 7th for the Life Alive, Real Deal and JP Licks prizes, and December 23rd for the remainder - just in time for Chanukah and Christmas.
- $40 giftcard to Life Alive in Cambridge, Lowell, or Salem
- $25 giftcard to JP Licks
