Essential daily information at a glance.

 

1. Forecast: Partly sunny, with a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50s.

2. Tonight there's a "demolition delay" hearing in which preservationists will argue against a plan to raze the Home for Little Wanderers on South Huntington and build 196 units of housing. 6:30 p.m. at the MSPCA. I've attached to this post a rendering of what the front of the project would look like.

3. The mayor's budget proposal for this year will actually add city government jobs, according to the Globe. Check back here on Patch for more on this subject this afternoon when we bring you a report from today's City Council meeting.

4. Speaking of City Council, JP's district councilor, Matt O'Malley, is holding office hours at J.P. Licks on Friday from 8-9 a.m.

5. This week's "Best Bike Shop in JP" contest continues to draw interest. Half the scoring is based on ratings made on the nominees' Directory pages, where Bikes Not Bombs is in the lead with one new rating during the contest (one ★★★★★ rating.) Other nominees' pages are: Ferris Wheels, Revolution Bike Repair and The Community Spoke.
