Urban Coyotes? Blow 'Em Away.
Boston.com columnist Alex Beam suggests one way to handle urban coyotes.
With a recent report of coyote sightings in Boston and the nearby suburbs, one Boston.com columnist has offered a suggestion on how to deal with these sometimes-urban wild animals.
Columnist Alex Beam mentions Brookline, Newton, and a number of other local communities in a column, "They shoot coyotes, don't they?" posted today on Boston.com.
In the article, Beam makes reference to a Brookline incident Dec. 29 in which a citizen spotted a coyote in her driveway. Earlier in 2011, a number of other Brookline locals have their concerns about co-existing in an urban environment with these creatures.
In October, a coyote made news in West Roxbury for his blasé attitude toward humans.

I was walking home late one night (around 1 a.m.), and I could hear the coyotes howling in the Forest Hills Cemetery. They sounded quite close to the Wachusett St. side. It was surprising how loud they were. It was really cool albeit a bit spooky!

A pack of coyotes has frequented Forest Hills for years, now, without incident. Alex needs to get a grip.

As someone who takes early morning walks in the cemetery, I've seen the coyotes a few times. They're quite impressive. I'd counter Beam's article by suggesting that instead of shooting the coyotes perhaps we should starting thinning the gene pool of humanity by getting rid of uber-stupid journalists - beginning with the author of that article.
