The Hennigan School has a new library, filled with 2,000 books, thanks to a donation by Target.

The retailer chose the Hennigan as one of 42 schools nationwide it is helping renovate. In addition to the library, the company underwrote a school-based food pantry.

Families who came for the ribbon-cutting ceremony last Wednesday also received food donations, including bags of frozen chicken, as one Hennigan parent reported on his blog.

The Hennigan opened late this year because chipped paint with trace amounts of the toxin PCB had to be removed.

The Hennigan is a K2-5th grade elementary school in the West Zone of Boston Public Schools.
