Most posted street cleaning days will change by one day, according to the JPNC.
You’ve marked it on your calendar, written little reminders and tied rubber bands to your finger all in an effort to remember to move your car because it’s street cleaning day. That day is about to change for some Jamaica Plain residents
JPNC member Michael Reiskind said Boston Department of Public Works will clean streets in Jamaica Plain one day after the currently posted days in most signed areas beginning April 1 – Mondays will become Tuesdays in 2013, Fridays will become Mondays.
Currently, trash pickup and street cleaning days are the same in JP, but BPD found that this created a situation in which trash crews would begin to show up too late and street cleaners would show up early, Reiskind said.
The city will change the signage beginning in March.
“We’re urging everybody to start in March to look at your street cleaning signs so you don’t get surprised in April,” Reiskind said.
Street cleaning is performed between April 1 and Nov. 31 in Jamaica Plain. Cars parked on street cleaning streets during a cleaning are subject to ticketing and towing.

I would love to see the one way streets alternate the side that will be cleaned each month. I live on a JP one way street (Sedgwick) that has parking only on the even side so, the even side of the street has never been cleaned! People in my neighborhood association were interested in getting this alternating side of the street cleaning going but I don't know how to get the ball rolling for implementation. Any suggestions out there?

I once got a "street cleaning" parking ticket on Centre Street in the middle of December, and my car was parked right below a sign that clearly said Street Cleaning was from April 1 to November 30. I'm pretty sure they only gave me the ticket because the car I was driving had Connecticut plates thinking I would just pay it, and all the other cars on the street had Massachusetts Plates and none of them had tickets. I appealed it and they wrote this letter claiming they did nothing wrong but the ticket did not need to be paid. Very annoying that public employees give out fraudulent tickets to people they think don't live here, not very welcoming at all.

I did as well, only a couple of weeks ago. Got a street cleaning ticket in the middle of Winter, which I thought was odd because--as I understood it--street cleanings stop during the winter. I still need to write that letter, however...

I think I have had about 6 tickets since 2003 (I don't drive a car, these are just on cars I have borrowed). I have appealed three of them, and they all were dismissed just with a letter. Two were vague, they were technically correct, but I argued that the signs were confusing. The third was this street cleaning ticket, where they were clearly wrong despite claiming they were not.
It's still annoying the City of Boston will never admit an employee made a mistake as a matter of policy, even in cases where the error is clear.

So, wait, does this affect only the areas where trash pickup and street cleaning coincide? I live in central JP where the street cleaning is on Mondays and trash pickup is on Fridays. I don't see why they'd need to change the setup here, unless it's to accommodate dramatic changes elsewhere.

Yes, if your street cleaning is on the same day as your trash pickup, street cleaning will move ahead one day. Reiskind did say the change would be for "most" posted street cleaning areas in JP. Best thing to do is check your signs in March.

How about street cleaning on Seaverns Ave near Green Street station where it is TWICE a month and on Wednesday on half the street and Mondays on the other. The intention is to confuse motorists and generate more tickets. I have been confused by this and gotten tickets there.
