Central JP merchants deck their storefronts for a city-wide contest. "Dame" moves on to the next round.
JP's central business district is aglow with seasonal spirit. To the delight of shoppers, commuters, residents, and children, many merchants have decked their Centre and South Street storefronts with eyecatching window displays.
For the first time, this year Boston Main Streets is holding its "Deck the Windows" contest. Stores throughout the city's 19 Main Street districts are competing to see whose star shines brightest. Other JP Main Street districts are Egleston Square and Hyde/Jackson Square.
The friendly contest for the best holiday window decorations will be decided in phases. This week a panel of local judges from each participating Main Street district will select the best neighborhood window display. For Centre/South, the winner is Dame, according to Randace Moore, executive director of Centre/South Main Streets.
Beginning today, a photo of each Main Streets area's top choice is supposed to be posted on the City's website. Then, though Dec. 17, the public is invited to vote online for their five favorite storefront windows.
During the weekend of Dec. 18, the top five contestants selected by the public will be visited by a panel of local celebrity judges. Winners will be selected on the basis of the best representation of local style and history, most inviting for customers, and most festive.
The final top three storefront window displays will be honored by Mayor Thomas Menino at the winning business on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Established by Menino in 1995, Boston Main Streets is dedicated to the revitalization of the city's neighborhood commercial districts through design, technical, and financial support.

Gotta go with Polkadog Bakery so far. Biased because I shop there, but the window displays are really nice.
