O'Malley Tells Obama to Go to Doyle's Pub
District 6 Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley attended the White House Christmas Party on Dec. 18.
District 6 Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley attended the White House's annual Christmas Party and briefly got to speak with President Barack Obama.
"It was a thrill of a lifetime," said O'Malley about the Dec. 18 Washington D.C. party.
"We had about 30 seconds to talk to the President and the First Lady. I introduced myself as a city councilor of Boston. And he said ‘I love Boston.’ I said 'We love you. The next time you’re in town I want to personally invite you and the First Lady to Doyle’s in Jamaica Plain.' And he laughed and that was it."
Asked why he recommended Doyle's Pub in Jamaica Plain, O'Malley said, "Doyle’s - because it’s a great, old political pub."
"If it indeed ever happens. We’d do a District 6 pub crawl – Doyle’s, the Galway, Kelleher’s in Roslindale, and West on Centre, and end at The Corrib," said O'Malley to Patch.
O'Malley was able to take a photo of President Obama, and provided some insight into taking photos of the president. The Secret Service lets you know you can take photos of President Obama when you're to the left or the right of him, but not when he's right in front of you, said O'Malley.

How about the Eire Pub in Dorchester? It's seen two presidents, Reagan and Clinton. Of course after Reagan went there Channel 5 was interviewing a regular patron who's response was that it was "ok" but he liked it better the time Ed King came. Why? "Because Ed King set up the bar!"
