Obama Gets 99.9 Percent of Jamaica Plain's June Presidential Donations
Late June fundraisers brought Boston donors to the president's side.
Jamaica Plain residents who opened their wallets to presidential candidates in June made it abundantly clear who they want to win this November: Barack Obama.
The president raised more than 800 times as much as the former Massachusetts Governor in June. Obama raked in $45,185 to Romney's $55. That's 99.9 percent of donations.
Obama's portion of the take is up from the 91 percent residents gave him in May.
Romney performed best in the North End Waterfront area, where Obama raised only 50 percent more than the former governor.
In total, Boston donors gave more than $357,000 to the two presidential campaigns last month in more than 1,400 transactions.
While the state’s voting history may explain some of the lopsided results shown here, it’s also worth noting that president Obama held fundraisers in the city in late June.

Romney's national campaign HQ's are in the North End (waterfront). Coincidence?

JP is not a good indication of the 2012 race, it like taking a sample mean from Plano, TX for Romney. JP is so far left they can't even see the fence!

Where do you get these amounts? Do they include online donations as well as checks mailed?

Hi Anita. I'll find out...

These numbers were taken from the latest Federal Election Commission filings for all individual contributions. To my knowledge, that includes online, in person and by-mail donations. It does not include money given to Super PACs.

Thanks, Matt. And Chris for passing my question along. I want to see for myself. I'm hoping that I can get through to the FEC. For example, are names, addresses, and amounts recorded? Is there a distinction between mailed in and online donations?

I went to the Federal Elections Commission website and could type in my name and see the amount I have given. However, they still have my previous address in Wellesley although I moved to JP in early May 2011 and NEVER donated while I lived in Wellesley. When I moved I contacted Com. of MA, State Retirement Board, post office, City of Boston (I have voted here), etc. When I give, which is only online, I have to include my address. How could my online giving still be reported as a Wellesley donor?! Well, it's not for the JP Patch to answer. I finally clicked on their info link and asked how I could change my address with them. No reply yet. Too early. However I think each donor who has moved and has given to whatever candidate should go to FEC website and click on individual donations and write your own name in. See what it says about you.

Anita, have you change/registered to vote since moving to JP? The FEC uses the voter registration bank, and if your voter registration is still at your last address that could be the answer/solution. Also, if you have not registered to vote in JP, for your new assigned voting district, you'll want to do that ASAP. I am not sure what the Ma. registration laws are, but here in Md. we have to be registered within a specific time, prior to election day. No same day registration for instance.

I thought my comment made it clear that I had changed my voter registration and that I have already voted here in Jamaica Plain. I have a document from the City of Boston that confirms this. Thank you for your concern. I did receive a voicemail from a guy at the FEC who didn't really read my request to him, which was simply: How do I change my address w/FEC. I NEVER made an online or by mail political contribution when I lived in Wellesley. He left a number for me to call. I will also contact City of Boston to make sure I am on the rolls! There was no problem for me when I voted for local people last year, but I had better check it out because for sure I want my vote for President and Mass.Senator to count. Best wishes to you!
