No Reported Injuries in South Street Shooting
A blue Honda fit had a backseat window blown out in an apparent drive-by shooting in the same block as a December shooting that left one man wounded.

Police say there were no reported injuries in a "shots fired" incident on South Street Friday afternoon.
Scanner reports indicated a drive-by shooting had taken place. A blue Honda Fit, cordoned off by police tape, had its left backseat window blown out. Officers were investigating the car and nearby houses for evidence, including bullets. The car had Massachusetts plates.
Initial scanner reports said police were seeking four men. At least one man was detained at the scene.
The incident is in the same block as a Dec. 11 shooting that left one man wounded.
There may be a connection between the Dec. 11 shooting and the Dec. 22 arrest of Niko Flores, 17. Police say Flores chucked a box containing guns and crack cocaine out the window of a Boylston Street apartment as they entered to conduct a search warrant.
According to a separate police report, the person arrested as a result of that search, whose name was redacted from the police report, told officers that he was one of the men seen in a surveillance video fleeing from the area of the shooting.
As of last week, no further charges had been filed against Flores, police said.

I am so glad that JP Patch exists, because we need to keep track of this crazy violence going on right in front of our homes!!! I love being out and about walking and meeting people in my neighborhood and it's pretty scary to think I could be shot by just walking about the neighborhood!!! I know most of the neigbors who live here and they are kind caring people who like their neighborhood and they want to keep it safe! We have a right to live in a safe neighborhood without being threatened by this insanity.

Pam, I live a few doors down on south street, and I would wholeheartedly agree: most of the people in the area are kind and caring, and care about the neighborhood and the people in it. That said, there are also other elements in the neighborhood that aren't. They mostly center around the brick row houses at the corner of the Arborway and South Street, one of which is abandoned. As horrible as it is that these events have occurred, what I find more unsettling is the lack of engagement by the Police Department. As you said, the people in this neighborhood care about it and the people in it, but in both shootings here the police didn't bother to question, inform or engage the people in the immediate area at all. Community policing is the most effective way to stop violence, and the BPD needs to do a better job working with those who have an interest in keeping their community safe.

I also live down the street and contacted our local representatives just to make them aware that these events are unnerving, to put it mildly, and something needs to be done.
I heard back from Jullieanne Doherty of the Mayor's Office, Councilor-at-Large, Stephan Murphy's office (apparently Murphy's office has been in touch with Councilor Matt O'Malley's office regarding these events) and I received an email from Sgt. Eric Krause, Area E-13 Community Service Office. He invited calls to "discuss the incidents." I urge you to contact them, especially Sgt. Krause, with questions, concerns, and any more information. I hope this gets resolved soon.
