Menino Doing Three Hours of Physical Therapy a Day

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is currently at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center recuperating his back.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is working hard to recuperate his back by doing three hours of physical therapy a day.

“He’s not walking as well as he wants to, but he’s walking,” Menino spokeswoman Dot Joyce told the Boston Herald. “With his therapy, he’ll be better than he was before (his hospitalization).”

No word was given on when Menino would be released from the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center.

Menino was hospitalized on Oct. 26 for a viral infection, and while he was in the hospital a blood clot was found, as was a back compressure fracture, which led to an infection. He was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes while in Brigham & Women's Hospital, where he was released from on Nov. 26.

A Boston spokesperson told Patch that Menino would not be attending the National League of Cities’ (NLC) annual Congress of Cities on Dec. 1. Boston is hosting 4,000 city officials and urban leaders from across the country for the event.
