Java Jo's to be Replaced by Fazenda Coffee Roasters Cafe

The new operation will serve coffee and sandwiches and host "cuppings" of special coffees.

Fazenda Coffee Roasters Cafe will soon replace the shuttered just across from the . Java Jo's had been open since 2005.

Once reopened, the offerings will be similar to Java Jo's — coffee and sandwiches, but with the added twist of roasting their own coffee and offering coffee tastings, according to Fazenda Coffee Co. owner Philip Schein.

Fazenda will provide "to-go food that's healthy and high quality," Schein said.

They plan to offer a "high end coffee program, but not in a way that's ridiculous for the neighborhood," Schein said.

Fazenda has a coffee roasting operation in Haverhill and an office in Needham. Their 3710 Washington St. retail store will, in addition to serving coffee and sandwiches and providing WiFo, aim to provide education about coffee. They provide equipment and training to restaurants and cafes. Schein plans to partner with restaurants for "cuppings," or coffee tastings.

A soft opening could come as early as next weekend, Schein said.

The new business will seek a permit to do on-premises coffee roasting, as is done at on Centre Street.
