Not to be outdone by its sisters, the Egleston and JP branch libraries, the Connolly Library hosted a Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Monday.

At six o'clock there was a bilingual (English-Spanish) children's participatory reading, where library staff, parents, and children joined in reading and commenting young peoples' stories.

At 6:30 three members of La Timbistica, begun performing in the auditorium.

The group, made up of Dyramir Gonzalez Vicet (keyboard), Paulo Stagnarzo (percussion) and Kalani Trinidad (flute) electrified the audience with their varied Latin rhytms and engaging personalities.

Children and their families who had just come from the reading upstairs begun dancing and enjoying the music, frolicking, holding hands, and, the little ones (as the pictures show), while sometimes not able to stay on their feet for too long, enjoyed the party none-the-less.

The children were dressed by their proud parents for the occasion, and they were total knock-outs.

There was a break for food, a totally delicious complete and abundant Spanish dinner served by El Oriental from across the street.

Afterward the music resumed, children created a circle round the room, not raucous but polite, and then the party gradually slowed down to a stand still. Friendly conversations ensued.

Friends, relatives, aunts, uncles, library bugs, they all seemed to have a grand time.

Everyone, library staff and patrons alike, went home with the glee of satisfaction on their faces.

Para no ser superada por su bibliotecas hermanas Egleston y Sedwick, la biblioteca Connolly celebró el Mes de la Herencia Hispana el lunes 18 de octubre.

Tres miembros de La Timbistica, una orquesta latina de estrellas originada en la universidad de música Berklee de Boston, y nombrada por la prestigiosa revista DownBeat Grupo del 2008 en la categoría universitaria, amenizó la función.

El trio llevó a cabo una variedad de piezas electrificantes en el género jazz latino. Enrique "Kalani" Trinidad asombró a la audiencia con su flauta, igual que Dyramir en el piano y Paulo en las congas.

Después de una abundante y deliciosa comida latina, y más música y danza, todo el mundo se fue a la casa con una sonrisa en la cara. Muchos expresaron deseo por más funciones similares.

La sucursal

De acuerdo al sitio de la biblioteca en la Red: "La sucursal ha proveído servicios en Hyde Square desde 1897, desde que era un pequeño depósito de libros en la parte trasera de una farmacia en la esquina de Lamartine y Paul Gore.

En 1905 la sucursal Boylston—nombrada por las estación de trenes Boylston—abrió sus puertas. Respondiendo a la necesidad de más espacio, un bello edificio construido de piedra de cal fue inaugurado en 1932. en 1940 la sucursal fue renombrada Monseñor Arthur T. Connolly, en homenaje a quien hubo servido por muchos años en la junta directiva de la Biblioteca Pública de Boston, y párroco de la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón.

La sucursal cuenta con una amplia colección de libros en español.
