Bikes Not Bombs Ships 50K Bikes [PHOTOS]

The JP-based organization’s event is today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Dorchester.

Jamaica Plain-based Bikes Not Bombs shipped off its 50,000th bicycle at an event in Dorchester over the weekend.

The bike collection collective hosted a container loading event at its warehouse between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. At around 4 p.m., the organization loaded its 50,000th bicycle.

Volunteers helped load sea freight containers en route to Ability Bikes Cooperative, a bike coop in Koforida, Ghana owned and operated by physically challenged people, according to the Bikes Not Bombs website.

Bikes Not Bombs, located on Amory Street, reclaims thousands of bicycles each year, and creates local and global programs that provide skill development, jobs, and sustainable transportation.
