JP Residents Attend Cast Party for Boston Lyric Opera
The Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) hosted a cast reception at the John F. Kennedy Library on February 8th for 100 guests, immediately following the Opening Night performance of their haunting new Opera Annex production of The Lighthouse by Peter Maxwell Davies. Davies’ compelling chamber opera was performed with a striking view of Boston Harbor as its eerie and foreboding backdrop and was directed by internationally-acclaimed stage director Tim Albery in his BLO debut. Starring singers John Bellemer, Christopher Burchett, and BLO Emerging Artist in Residence David Cushing, The Lighthouse was conducted by BLO Music Director David Angus.
BLO’s Opera Annex offers audiences an opportunity to experience opera in an alternative space outside the traditional theater environment. “A major component of Opera Annex is to select a performance space that enhances and complements the opera and to create an immersive artistic experience for audience members,” said BLO General & Artistic Director Esther Nelson. “Smith Hall at the JFK Presidential Library & Museum, with its proximity to the ocean and wall of windows facing Boston Harbor, did just that for The Lighthouse.”
